Features – This is a sandy beach, although the best of the sand is located to the left of the car park with more weed and rock to the right. Although it is shallow in places it will hold Flounder, Dabs and Plaice over the sand, with Codling and Coalfish off the rocks. Because of its shallowness the beach is best fished at night and offers protection from the prevailing westerly winds.

Baits – Flounders, Dabs and Plaice will all be taken on lugworm or small mackerel baits. Lugworm is best for the Codling although squid is also a good alternative. Mackerel, Squid and lugworm will also produce Coalfish.

Tackle – A 5 to 6oz beachcaster should be used for general fishing at Newark Bay, coupled with a two hook rig for the flat fish and smaller coalfish and a one hook paternoster for the Cod. If you’re targeting just flatfish a lightweight 2 to 4oz Bass rod or specialist beach rod will be ideal and offers more fun.
