Features – A very shallow clean sand beach with
patches of light weed covered rock at longer range. The beach is unique
by the presence of a block ship directly in the middle of the bay some
75 yards (69m) out. Best fished at night time either side of high water
for Dabs, Plaice and Small Turbot. There is also the possibility of small
Conger Eels and Codling around the block ship. Sea Trout are also evident
at both ends of the beach near rock ledges and are a target for saltwater
fly fishing.
Baits – Due to the nature of the beach lugworm
is the best bait for most species with small Mackerel strips for the Turbot
and larger fillets and sections for Congers around the block ship and
off the rocks at either end. Codling should respond to lugworm or squid
baits also cast near to the block ship and rocks.
Tackle – A 5 to 6oz beachcaster will be sufficient
for this mark, with a simple one hook or two hook rig taking most fish.
A small lightweight 2 to 4oz rod could be used for the small flatfish
found on the beach for added sport.
